Staff of the Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Awka, have embarked on a general compound cleaning exercise aimed at maintaining a clean and conducive working environment within the office premises.

The initiative aligns with the directive of the new Head of Service, Mrs. Ngozi Anuli Iwouno, who emphasized the importance of cleanliness across all government offices and their surroundings.

Addressing staff shortly before the exercise, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Sir Victor Ezekwo, expressed concern over the poor sanitation habits of some employees, particularly those who litter office spaces indiscriminately.

He urged staff to become ambassadors of change by promoting and maintaining cleanliness within their workspaces and the broader office environment.

Sir Ezekwo also directed all staff to identify and bring out unserviceable or broken-down office equipment, which will be evacuated to the state secretariat in line with the Head of Service’s directive.

In addition, he reminded employees of the importance of regular attendance and punctuality at work.

He noted that the only approved holidays for the Easter celebration are April 3, and April 6, with all staff expected to resume duties on April 7.

The Permanent Secretary warned against acts of indiscipline, stressing that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against defaulters.

He further advised staff to take their responsibilities seriously and remain at their duty posts during working hours.

Heads of Departments in the Ministry actively participated in the cleanup exercise, demonstrating their commitment to the directive of the Head of Service and the collective goal of maintaining a neat and healthy work environment.

The exercise was carried out in collaboration with the state government’s regular office cleaning personnel, reinforcing ongoing efforts to uphold sanitation standards within the ministry.
