The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has taken the state’s Value Reformation campaign to another dimension through a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Environment.
The partnership seeks to strengthen value reformation and public enlightenment while encouraging behavioural change among Ndi Anambra towards building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.
Speaking during a meeting at the Ministry of Environment, Secretariat, Awka, on September 15, Dr. Mefor said Value Reformation remained central to his ministry’s mandate and required strong collaboration to achieve meaningful results.
He noted that flooding and erosion were partly linked to human activities, urging residents to adopt responsible practices in managing stormwater, preserving green spaces and protecting their immediate environment.
Mefor also called for the activation of existing community structures, including town unions, traditional institutions and community leaders, to mobilise residents and promote environmental responsibility across communities in the state.
He further proposed the establishment of a technical committee comprising officials of both ministries to develop a practical blueprint for sustained value reformation, sensitisation and community mobilisation.
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, in his response, described the partnership as timely, stressing that environmental transformation remained a major pillar of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Solution Agenda.
Aguiyi emphasised the need for education, sensitisation and enforcement, urging schools, churches, town unions, traditional rulers and communities to take ownership of environmental protection for lasting transformation.
Highlight of the meeting was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two ministries to advance environmental awareness and value reformation, with the first joint programme targeted for the first week of October.
