Worshippers at St. Mark’s Church, Omagba, Onitsha, gathered in solemn reverence to commemorate Maundy Thursday, a significant event in the Christian calendar marking the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with His disciples.

The service featured a moving homily delivered by Revd Chinoso Agbalakwe, who centered his message on the theme of humility, drawing from the Gospel of John 13:1–10.
In his sermon, Rev. Agbalakwe highlighted the profound significance of Jesus Christ washing the feet of His disciples—an act that demonstrated exceptional humility and selflessness. He noted that despite possessing all authority, Christ chose the path of service, setting a lasting example for His followers.

“Jesus, knowing that all things had been given to Him, did not exalt Himself but humbled Himself to perform one of the lowest tasks—washing the feet of His disciples,” he said.
The cleric urged Christians to emulate Christ’s humility in their daily lives, stressing that true leadership is rooted in service and sacrifice rather than status or position.
The symbolic foot-washing observed during the service further reinforced the message of love, humility, and service to others. The Parish Priest, Ven Elochukwu Ojukwu, led the congregation in the ceremonial washing of feet.
Speaking with journalists after the service, Mrs. Comfort Okeke and Mrs. Chinwe Okoye expressed gratitude to God for the example set by Jesus Christ, noting that humility remains a guiding principle for Christian living.
Maundy Thursday serves as a reminder to believers of the call to love one another and to serve selflessly, just as Christ demonstrated.
As Easter celebrations continue, worshippers were encouraged to uphold the virtues of humility and service, reflecting the true essence of the season.
