Participants at a one day busines roundtable have underscored the role of strategic collaboration in driving accelerated and sustainable economic development in the state.

Rising from a Quarterly Business Roundtable organised by the Unizik Business School (UBS), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in collaboration with Ministry of Industry, Chambers of Commerce, they proposed establishment of Anambra Innovation Council to chart the pathway.

The event, held at the UBS Auditorium which had the theme: Anambra Triple Helix System: University- Industry – Government Alignment, brought together academics, administrators, captains of industry and government officials.

Highlighting the significance of the theme, the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim, affirmed government readiness to be part of Anambra Innovation Council in bringing together players in the dialogue to create a thriving state economy.

He described as imperative, the call for collaborative efforts to propel the state towards a more resilient and prosperous future.

“We are running out of time because of our commitment to lay the foundation and drive the state forward over the next 50 years development plan in a way that will create opportunities for everyone.”

Acknowledging that more needed to be done by citadels of learning in the nation, he challenged varsities to seek actionable answers to contemporary issues.

Declaring the event open, the Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Bond Anyaehie, noted that the roundtable reaffirmed the essentiality of tackling developmental challenges through a working synergy.

The Vice Chancellor, who was represented by Prof Hilda Osisioma, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, described the theme as apt and consistent with the call for various actors to pursue a collective development oriented agenda.

Chairman of the Occasion, Dr Ikem Odumodu, former Director General, Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) commended Unizik Business School for its flagship roundtable platform and technical support work.

He urged the gathering to deepen linkages among stakeholders geared towards translating rhetorics into positive outcomes.

The lead paper presenter, Prof Osita Ogbu, recommended structured educational system focused on science, technology and engineering to encourage mentorship, technology entrepreneurship and innovation to address multiple economic challenges.

“We must think and work on ways to use our own and other frame works to collectively achieve our dreams.

“We are not where we should be and we must continue to set goals to inspire ourselves to do more.”

Earlier in a Welcome Address, the Director, Unizik Business School, Prof Pius Okoye, expressed optimism that the collaboration between the University, Chambers of Commerce, and the State Government would offer a clear blueprint for inclusive economic growth.

“With sustained commitment and strategic execution, the Triple Helix Matrix will not only drive innovation but also secure long term prosperity for Ndi Anambra”

Some of the Discussants including Ambassador Elija Onyeagba reasoned that strong institutions, commitment by all stakeholders and government willingness were needed for a successful economic development in the state.
