The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, on Aug. 12 has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to empowering youths with the skills, opportunities and support needed to build productive and self reliant futures.
Onyekesi stated this in her message to commemorate the 2026 International Youth Day, stressing that youth empowerment must go beyond speeches and promises to deliver practical skills, economic opportunities, protection and meaningful participation in society.
She said the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare had continued to implement interventions aimed at improving the capacity, welfare and prospects of young people through skills acquisition, entrepreneurship support and social protection programmes.
The commissioner also highlighted the ministry’s child and youth protection initiatives, as well as programmes designed to empower young women and vulnerable youths.
According to her, investing in young people is essential to building a stronger, more resilient and prosperous society, given their creativity, energy and capacity to drive innovation and sustainable development.
She urged youths in the state to take advantage of available opportunities in education, skills development, entrepreneurship and innovation, while making responsible choices and shunning social vices.
Onyekesi encouraged young people to pursue legitimate pathways to success and use their skills and talents to contribute positively to their families, communities and the state.
She congratulated youths across Anambra on the occasion and assured them that the ministry would continue to champion programmes that promote their protection, dignity, inclusion and empowerment.
