The Anambra State Commissioner for Power, Mr Casmir Chinenye Agummadu, on Aug. 11 has led a joint inspection of ongoing work at the Ogboji Substation, insisting on strict compliance with approved engineering and safety standards.

The inspection team comprised officials of the Ministry of Power and the Project Evaluation and Monitoring Unit.

The inspection commenced at the Agu Awka Unit to Ogboji, where Agummadu said the exercise was part of efforts to ensure that critical power projects aligned with the state government’s objective of expanding electricity access and strengthening power infrastructure.

He said a reliable electricity network was essential to stimulating economic activities, particularly for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and large scale industries affected by inadequate power supply.

According to him, improved electricity supply would boost productivity, attract investment, create employment opportunities and enhance the quality of life of residents.

Addressing the contractor handling Lot 1 of the project, the commissioner directed that all aspects of the work must comply with approved engineering and safety standards.

He warned that substandard execution would undermine the government’s efforts to build a dependable power sector capable of supporting industrial and commercial development.

Agummadu also stressed the importance of proper supervision, quality assurance and timely completion of the project.

The commissioner condemned the destruction and vandalism of government power infrastructure, warning that reckless drivers who damage electrical installations and individuals involved in vandalising public assets would face the full weight of the law.

He urged contractors, residents and other stakeholders to protect public infrastructure and support the state government’s efforts to improve electricity supply across Anambra.
