As the world commemorates International Traffic Light Day on August 5, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, is advancing smart mobility through the modernisation of traffic light infrastructure and improved traffic management across the state.
International Traffic Light Day marks the invention of the traffic light and highlights its vital role in enhancing road safety, reducing accidents, regulating vehicular movement, and protecting pedestrians in cities around the world.
In line with his urban renewal agenda, Governor Soludo has prioritised safer and more efficient transportation by upgrading traffic management infrastructure and strengthening institutional capacity for effective road traffic administration in Anambra State.
As part of these efforts, the administration has rehabilitated and maintained traffic lights at strategic intersections, including Aroma, Kwata, Regina Caeli, and Lighthouse Junctions in Awka, improving traffic coordination and promoting orderly vehicular movement.

The government has also installed additional traffic lights at key intersections under ongoing road development projects, reinforcing its commitment to smart mobility, enhanced road safety, and sustainable urban transportation.
Through the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA), the state government has strengthened traffic regulation by deploying personnel to major intersections with heavy traffic volumes to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles.
ARTMA has sustained enforcement against one-way driving, indiscriminate parking, traffic obstruction, reckless driving, and other traffic violations while intensifying public enlightenment campaigns to encourage motorists, commercial drivers, and pedestrians to observe traffic regulations.
The agency also responds promptly to traffic incidents, clears road obstructions, and collaborates with relevant security agencies to maintain the free flow of traffic across major roads and commercial centres.
As the global community marks International Traffic Light Day, residents are urged to obey traffic lights, comply with traffic regulations, cooperate with ARTMA officials, and support Governor Soludo’s vision of building a safer, smarter, and more orderly Anambra State.
