The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured voters in Anambra State of its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, inclusive and conclusive elections ahead of the 2027 general polls.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Anambra State, Dr. Queen Agwu, gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Commission’s headquarters in Awka.
Agwu, who has been overseeing electoral activities in the state since her posting in 2022, reaffirmed INEC’s determination to uphold electoral integrity and strengthen public confidence in the voting process.

She urged political candidates to focus on presenting their programmes, policies and development plans to the electorate rather than engaging in electoral malpractice.

The REC also called on political parties to conduct peaceful and orderly campaigns, warning against vote buying and other practices capable of undermining the credibility of the elections.

She emphasized that campaigns should provide candidates with opportunities to communicate their visions to voters and persuade them through constructive engagement.
On preparations for the 2027 general election, Agwu disclosed that INEC was more than 80 per cent ready, assuring stakeholders that measures were being taken to prevent technical challenges and other disruptions during the exercise.

The meeting attracted representatives of political parties, the media, security agencies and candidates, providing an avenue for discussions on electoral preparedness and the responsibilities of stakeholders.

Agwu further announced that the Commission’s recruitment portal was open for applications for various ad hoc positions, encouraging qualified residents of Anambra State to apply.

The Commission’s assurance underscores the importance of peaceful campaigns, responsible political participation and collective commitment to credible elections as preparations for the 2027 general polls continue.
