‎FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has confirmed the arrest of two men suspected of vandalising its DSS Annex B transformer in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
‎
‎The suspects, identified as Chukwuebuka Charles Nwangwu and Chimezie Nwankwo, both reportedly from Awkuzu community, were arrested on October 7, by operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achị attached to the Enugwu-Agidi unit.
‎
‎According to a security report received by the electricity distribution company, the suspects were apprehended over their alleged involvement in the destruction of the transformer, while items believed to be connected to the incident were reportedly recovered. The report also indicated that the suspects had confessed to the alleged offence.
‎
‎Following their arrest, the suspects and recovered exhibits were handed over to the police at Abagana Police Station for preliminary investigation. Arrangements were also underway to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
‎
‎In a statement dated October 9, and signed by its Head of Communications, Izunna Okafor, FirstPower said the arrests formed part of its sustained efforts to combat electricity infrastructure vandalism across Anambra State.
‎
‎The company expressed concern that the persistent destruction and theft of electricity installations disrupted power supply to communities and imposed significant financial burdens through the repair and replacement of damaged or stolen equipment.
‎
‎FirstPower reiterated its commitment to collaborating with security agencies and host communities to identify those responsible for damaging critical electricity infrastructure and ensure that offenders are brought to justice. It also urged residents to report suspicious activities around transformers, electricity poles, cables and other power installations to the appropriate authorities.
‎
‎The company encouraged members of the public to support its ongoing Name and Shame initiative by providing credible information to help prevent infrastructure vandalism and electricity theft. It stressed that such criminal activities affect not only the company but also consumers and communities that depend on reliable electricity supply.
‎
‎FirstPower commended security agencies and community stakeholders for their cooperation in protecting electricity infrastructure, assuring customers that it would sustain efforts to strengthen network security and improve service delivery. The company maintained that public vigilance and collective action remained essential to safeguarding electricity assets and ensuring reliable power supply across its areas of operation.
