The Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, has charged young talents to look beyond academic qualifications and continuously build practical skills.

Agbata gave the charge recently, while welcoming some new interns and corps members, encouraging them to maximise their time and learning opportunities at the Agency.

“Academic qualifications provide a foundation, but continuous learning, practical experience and the ability to apply knowledge remain critical in today’s rapidly evolving technology landscape,” he noted.

He urged the interns and National Youth Service Corps members to remain curious, explore opportunities around them and develop competencies that would prepare them for the future.

About 20 interns and corps members are currently gaining practical experience across the Agency’s Media and Core Technology units, working alongside professionals and participating in ongoing activities.

The Lead, Core Technology Unit, Ideke Castro, said the Agency’s approach is to complement the largely theoretical knowledge young people acquire in school with practical exposure to workplace tools and technologies.

“What they have in school is largely theoretical, so what we are doing here is to complement that knowledge with practical experience and expose them to the tools and technologies they will encounter in the workplace,” Castro said.

The ongoing training covers website technologies and web development, including WordPress and technologies applicable to different frameworks.

Speaking on their experience, Evans Ezeokoye said, “I know a little about WordPress, but with the hands-on training here, I can learn better,” while Chukwuma Njoku said the conducive environment would leave him more confident and equipped to complete his Computer Science course.

Beyond their assignments, the experience is providing them with an environment to learn, explore, contribute and grow, equipping them with practical competencies that can support their future careers.
