‎The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, has called for the institutionalisation of anti-corruption education within Nigeria’s legal training system to produce lawyers who uphold integrity as well as legal expertise.
‎
‎Dr. Aliyu made the call in Abuja during the ICPC and Nigerian Law School Workshop for Deans of Faculties of Law. The workshop, themed “Institutionalising Anti-Corruption Education in Nigeria’s Legal Training,” focused on strategies to embed ethical and anti-corruption content into legal education.  He stated that corruption remained a major impediment to national development and stressed that preventive measures, education, and value-based training were as critical as law enforcement in addressing the challenge.
‎
‎Dr. Aliyu emphasized that the ICPC’s role was to facilitate collaboration among stakeholders rather than impose a rigid framework. He urged institutions to embed ethical values in legal education at the earliest stage.
‎
‎Delivering opening remarks on behalf of the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef O. Fagbemi, Mr. Kanu Agabi urged faculties of law to confront corruption directly and to support curricular reforms that promote civic responsibility and national unity.
‎
‎The Chairman of the Council of Legal Education, Chief Emeka Ngige, endorsed the initiative, noting that the Nigerian Law School already incorporated ethics into its training and describing the proposed anti-corruption modules as timely. The National Universities Commission, represented by Mr. L.M. Farouk, also highlighted the role of universities in shaping character and civic responsibility.
‎
‎Participants examined proposals for integrating anti-corruption studies into the Bachelor of Laws, (LL.B), curriculum and the Nigerian Law School programme, in line with the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards, (CCMAS).
‎
‎The workshop featured presentations from legal academics, including Prof. Muhammad Tabiu, Prof. Joy Ezeilo, and Prof. Adedeji Adekunle. The sessions were aimed at generating practical recommendations for the integration of anti-corruption education into legal training in Nigeria.
