IBUZO RECEIVES TRACAS REVIEW REPORT, SETS STAGE FOR TRANSPORT REFORMS

The nine-member Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS) Review Committee has submitted its comprehensive report to the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, following a review of the agency’s operations.

The committee, inaugurated on July 16, presented its findings and formally handed over the report to Ibuzo during a meeting on Aug. 18.

Chaired by Chief Michael Chukwudeme, the committee assessed TRACAS’ finances, administration, governance, staffing, revenue generation, facilities, fleet management, passenger services and institutional accountability.

The review also covered courier services, commercial activities, legal frameworks, outlets, management structures, financial records and challenges affecting the agency’s efficiency and sustainability.

Particular attention was given to the E-Trackers digitalisation project, launched in 2024 to improve vehicle registration, e-ticketing, revenue remittance, auditing and transparency.

The committee noted that E-Trackers had been developed and installed and that relevant staff had been trained, but said its effectiveness was limited by poor adoption and other implementation challenges.

Receiving the report, Ibuzo said the review was necessary because TRACAS’ revenue and operational performance had not matched the level of economic growth recorded in the state under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

He directed the submission of weekly progress reports to keep the governor abreast of developments and facilitate timely decisions on the committee’s recommendations.

The commissioner said the findings would provide a basis for reforms aimed at repositioning TRACAS as a modern, efficient, transparent and customer focused transport agency capable of meeting the needs of Anambra’s growing population and economy.

He said the review would also provide a roadmap for strengthening TRACAS operations, improving revenue transparency and enhancing service delivery across the state.
