ANAMBRA COUNCIL APPROVES SID PERMANENT SITE, STRENGTHENS ENVIRONMENTAL ENFORCEMENT

By MaryAnn Chukwuma

‎The Anambra State Executive Council has approved the permanent site of the Solution Innovation District (SID) while strengthening environmental enforcement measures across the state. This is contained in a press release issued on Aug. 18, by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, PhD.

‎The council also appraised Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s working visit to Canada and Silicon Valley, describing the engagements as strategic to positioning Anambra as a leading innovation and technology hub. The decisions were reached at the ninth meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Soludo on August 17.

‎The council consequently approved the commissioning of the permanent site of the Solution Innovation District in March 2027, to coincide with the first anniversary of Governor Soludo’s second term in office.

‎The Solution Innovation District is designed to drive technology talent development, startups and digital enterprise, advancing the administration’s Solution 2.0 agenda.

‎On environmental protection, council resolved that all activities contributing to erosion and environmental degradation must stop forthwith, with strict enforcement of environmental laws.

‎The council also made catchment pits mandatory in residential, commercial and religious buildings, while houses channeling runoff water onto roads must seal such outlets.

‎According to the council, communities are required to constitute Environmental Teams to identify and report erosion sites, with government intervention prioritising communities demonstrating environmental compliance and commitment to restoration.
