The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, awarded a Certificate of Recognition to Igwe-elects, Igwe Barr. John Nzekwesili Nweke of Nsugbe and Igwe Aethelbirth Muoka of Adazi-Nnukwu, urging them to promote lasting peace and unity within their communities for development.

He spoke during the certificate presentation at the Exco Chamber in Anambra State Lighthouse, Awka, on September 1.

The governor congratulated the new Igwe-elects and encouraged them to lead as father figures in their communities. “You are the Royal fathers in your areas — act as true fathers. Not everyone will agree with you, but over time, opinions will change. Those who disagree now may agree later, and vice versa. That’s life.”

“The rebellion against the throne isn’t new; even in the Bible, there was rebellion against God’s throne. Strive to maintain peace in your community. When the community laws are enacted, they will control the activities of the town unions and align community structures with those of the Federal, State, and Local Governments — free of divisions,” he said.

Earlier, Barr. Ifeanyi Ezeaka, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, confirmed that the elections were conducted legally. He stated that at Nsugbe, two candidates vied for the Igweship, with Igwe Barr. John Nzekwesili Nweke emerging victorious, while in Adazi-Nnukwu, three candidates competed, with Igwe Aethelbirth Muoka winning.

In an interview, Igwe John Nzekwesili Nweke pledged to promote development and good governance. “We will bring government closer to the people and attract investments. Youth empowerment and guidance will be prioritised, and women will be actively involved in community development. Women’s exclusion will be discontinued during my reign,” he said.

Meanwhile, Igwe Aethelbirth Muoka stated he would uphold ancestral traditions, ensuring peace and progress in Adazi-Nnukwu. “We will support youth employment to reduce crime, and collaborate with the Local Government mayor to sustain peace across communities,” he added.

He emphasised that women will receive strong backing, and harmonisation will be built through the town unions, kindreds and clans to foster peaceful coexistence.
