‎The Anambra State Head of Civil Service, Barr. Ngozi Anuli Iwouno, Esq., has charged principals and teachers across the state to uphold discipline, commitment, professionalism, self-development, technological advancement and integrity in the discharge of their duties. Barr. Iwouno gave the charge on Sept. 1 in Awka during the 2026 Principals’ Annual Retreat, organised under the theme, “Leading With Purpose: Shaping the Future of Education in Anambra State.”
‎
‎She described teachers as critical partners in building the kind of Anambra State desired by Ndi Anambra, urging them to recognise their role as builders of minds, character and society. She also called on teachers to replace absenteeism with commitment, lateness with punctuality, indifference with responsibility, confrontation with professionalism, and excuses with measurable results.
‎

‎Barr. Iwouno identified various acts of misconduct among public servants to include insubordination, habitual lateness, negligence, sleeping on duty, unruly behaviour, assault, use of foul language and other actions capable of undermining public confidence in the civil service. According to her, serious misconduct could attract disciplinary sanctions, stressing, however, that disciplinary procedures must be fair, impartial, timely and evidence-based in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
‎

‎She urged principals and teachers to familiarise themselves with the rules governing their duties, perform their responsibilities diligently, respect constituted authority and members of the public, protect government property, pursue continuous self-development and uphold integrity at all times. The HoS reminded the participants that every lesson properly taught and every child properly guided represents an investment in the future of Anambra State, urging them to lead by example both within and outside the classroom.
‎

‎She said, “A disciplined teacher builds a disciplined child; a disciplined workforce builds an effective Civil Service; and an effective Civil Service builds a better Anambra State.” Barr. Iwouno commended teachers for their selfless sacrifices and contributions to the development of education in the state, and wished the participants a fruitful and impactful retreat.
