Residents of Ogidi community in Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, have intensified calls for urgent government intervention over persistent flooding that has continued to destroy property, disrupt economic activities, and threaten livelihoods across the area.

The appeal was made on May 24, during a peaceful public demonstration organised by youths and community stakeholders, who lamented the worsening condition of roads, homes, farmlands, and business areas whenever heavy rainfall occurs.

The President of Ogidi Youths, Chris Obi-Okafor, described the recurring flood incidents as a serious humanitarian challenge. He said many roads have become impassable, while farmlands, economic trees, and businesses have suffered heavy losses due to the disaster.

Obi-Okafor also expressed concern over the impact on education, noting that many children are unable to attend school during rainfall periods because of flooded roads and unsafe movement within the community.

Addressing the peaceful protesters, the traditional ruler of Ogidi, Igwe Alexander Onyido, said the flooding has severely disrupted commercial activities and created serious mobility challenges for residents. He assured the people that efforts would be intensified to engage the government on urgent intervention measures.

Community leaders stressed that their appeal remains peaceful and centred on survival, urging the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Anambra State Government led by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to provide lasting solutions to the recurring flood crisis.
