The Archdeacon of Isiafor Archdeaconry, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, Ven. David Ajaefobi, has described fathers as key pillars of strength, guidance, and responsibility in families and society.
Ven. Ajaefobi made the remark on June 21 during his sermon at Ascension Anglican Church, Isiafor Obosi, as part of activities marking Father’s Day celebration.
He said the occasion serves as a reminder that fathers are not only providers but also builders of homes, mentors to children, and contributors to the growth and stability of their communities.
According to him, true fatherhood goes beyond providing basic needs, as it involves nurturing, protecting, teaching values, and playing an active role in shaping the lives of children. He added that children often see their fathers as role models, learning from their actions, choices, and attitudes toward life.
Speaking separately, the Chairman of the Men’s Christian Fellowship, Sir O. C. Ezenwa, alongside Mr. Udoka Okafor and Sir Chris Okeke, emphasized that fatherhood carries the responsibility of leadership within the family.
They noted that fathers are expected to guide their children, support their spouses, and create peaceful and loving homes through their commitment and presence.
The speakers also highlighted the role of fathers in societal development through their professions, leadership positions, and community service, urging them to dedicate quality time to their children despite work and economic challenges.
They stressed that active involvement in parenting helps strengthen family bonds and reduce social vices among young people, encouraging fathers to uphold values of unity, peace, and responsibility.
The celebration featured the cutting of a Father’s Day cake and special musical performances in honour of fathers.
