The Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Barr. Vin Ifeanyi Ezeaka, has called for closer collaboration between the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), traditional rulers and other security agencies to strengthen community security and protect lives and property.
Ezeaka made the call on Oct. 28 when the Anambra State Command of the NFSS, led by its State Commander, Mr Destiny Jonas, paid him a familiarisation visit in his office.
He said cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions and other stakeholders was essential to addressing security challenges, particularly in forested communities.
The commissioner emphasised the need for effective communication and collective responsibility, noting that sustained collaboration would promote peace and security across the state.
He assured the delegation of the ministry’s support for initiatives aimed at improving security, adding that it would facilitate the operations of the NFSS in the 21 Local Government Areas of Anambra.
Earlier, Jonas said the visit was to familiarise the command with the commissioner and seek the ministry’s support in carrying out the service’s mandate.
He appealed for the ministry’s cooperation, saying it would enhance the service’s capacity to tackle criminal activities in forest areas and strengthen surveillance across the state.
Jonas said the command had introduced initiatives to improve forest security, protect forest reserves and safeguard residents through proactive monitoring and intelligence gathering.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss areas of cooperation towards strengthening forest security and improving community safety across the state.
