The Anti-Corruption Committee Unit (ACTU) of the Anambra State Ministry of Power and Water Resources has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct within the ministry.

The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by members of the committee to the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Casmir Chinenye Agummadu, at his office in Awka on June 19.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Uzochukwu Muoghalu, said the unit was established to identify and address irregularities within the ministry while fostering a culture of integrity among staff. He noted that the committee had carried out sensitization programmes across departments and agencies under the ministry, including the Fire Service Department and RUWASSA, to educate workers on the importance of ethical conduct and the functions of the unit.

Muoghalu disclosed that a complaint box had been provided to encourage staff and members of the public to report unethical practices and misconduct.

He added that the committee had also intensified efforts to monitor absenteeism and other actions capable of undermining productivity and good governance. While highlighting some operational challenges, he appealed for sustained support to enable the committee effectively discharge its mandate.

In his response, Engr. Agummadu commended the committee for its dedication to promoting transparency and accountability within the ministry and assured members of his full support. He pledged to create the necessary conditions for the unit to operate smoothly and independently.

The commissioner emphasized that accountability encourages responsibility, noting that individuals who understand they are answerable for their actions are more likely to perform their duties diligently and ethically. He urged committee members to remain objective, truthful, and guided by conscience in carrying out their responsibilities.

Agummadu further charged members to uphold the highest standards of integrity and serve as ambassadors of the anti-corruption campaign across the ministry’s departments and agencies. He stressed that the development of Anambra State requires collective effort and reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to building a better and more accountable society.

He maintained that a corruption free system remains essential for sustainable development and called on all staff of the ministry to always act in the best interest of the state and its citizens.
