‎The Anambra State Urban Water Assets Holding Company (ASUWAHC) has intensified efforts to improve operations at the Obizi Regional Water Scheme through enhanced customer engagement, strengthened revenue collection strategies, and improved security measures aimed at protecting critical water infrastructure on June 19.
‎
‎The initiatives was highlighted during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the Officer-in-Charge of ASUWAHC, Mrs. Emmanuella Nneka Okafor, with the President-General of Uga Community, Engr. Boniface Onwuka, the community’s Financial Secretary, Mr. Emma Ibeneme, and Mr. Peter Akaligwo, a retired educationist recently engaged as Customer Care Officer for the scheme.

‎The meeting reviewed progress recorded at the Obizi Regional Water Scheme and explored practical measures to improve service delivery, strengthen customer relations, boost revenue generation, and ensure the sustainability of potable water supply in the benefiting communities.

‎Speaking at the meeting, Mrs. Okafor formally briefed Mr. Akaligwo on his responsibilities, which include receiving and processing Expressions of Interest forms for new water connections, maintaining customer records, creating awareness on water tariff obligations, and ensuring prompt payment of water rates by connected customers.
‎
‎She emphasized that effective customer management remains vital to the success of the scheme and noted that Mr. Akaligwo would work closely with the Head of ASUWAHC Customer Care Unit, Mrs. Ngozi Obijagwam, to ensure efficient customer service, timely resolution of complaints, and seamless processing of new connections.
‎
‎Mrs. Okafor also commended Engr. Onwuka for his continued support towards the development and protection of the Obizi Water Scheme, particularly for facilitating the installation of security cameras and deployment of vigilante personnel at the intake facility to safeguard the water source from vandalism and contamination.
‎
‎According to her, the security improvements have significantly enhanced the protection of the facility, preserved water quality, and contributed to uninterrupted service delivery. She described the intervention as a strong demonstration of community ownership and partnership in safeguarding public water infrastructure.
‎
‎As part of efforts to improve compliance with water tariff payments, the meeting resolved to engage town criers to sensitize residents and connected customers on the importance of paying their water rates promptly, with ASUWAHC undertaking the cost of the awareness campaign. She noted that regular tariff payments are essential for facility maintenance and the continued provision of safe and reliable potable water.

‎To strengthen supervision and accountability, the Head of Obizi Zone, Mr. Chinedu Amucheazi, was tasked with overseeing the activities of the new Customer Care Officer. Participants expressed satisfaction with the progress made at the scheme and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting ASUWAHC’s vision of delivering sustainable, affordable, and reliable potable water to residents across Anambra State.
