The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Power has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Ministry of Power in achieving its mandate, as members paid a familiarization visit to the ministry to acquaint themselves with the action plan of the newly appointed Commissioner and discuss the way forward for the sector.
The visit, which took place on June 18, provided an opportunity for the lawmakers and ministry officials to engage on strategies aimed at improving power infrastructure and service delivery across the state.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Committee and member representing Ihiala II Constituency, Hon. Golden Iloh, emphasized that the committee’s mission was not to scrutinize or antagonize ministry officials but to work collaboratively towards the development of the state.
”We are not here to witch-hunt anyone. Our objective is to partner with the ministry and provide the necessary legislative support that will help move the ministry forward for the overall good of Anambra State,” Hon. Iloh stated.
Responding, the commissioner for Power, Engr. Casmir Agummadu, disclosed that since assuming office about a month ago, he has embarked on extensive inspections of ongoing and completed power projects across the state to assess their current status and operational conditions.
“Over the past month, I have been visiting various project sites across the state to understand their levels of completion and ascertain their present conditions. This assessment is necessary for us to determine the best approach towards improving power infrastructure in the state,” the commissioner explained.
Engr. Agummadu stressed that addressing the challenges confronting the ministry would require a united effort between the executive and legislative arms of government.
“It is a collective responsibility. The ministry and the House Committee on Power must work together to identify challenges and proffer lasting solutions that will enhance the performance of the sector,” he added.
Members of the committee, in their remarks, encouraged the commissioner to maintain a cordial and productive working relationship with the committee, noting that sustained collaboration would be crucial in advancing the state’s power development agenda.
