A political stalwart and international businessman, Hon. Obinna Igboebisi, has urged fathers to remain committed to their parental responsibilities, stressing that the stability and future of society largely depend on responsible fatherhood.
Igboebisi gave the advice while reflecting on the significance of Father’s Day, celebrated annually on the third Sunday of June. He noted that fathers occupy a crucial position in the family and must not abandon their duties of care, guidance and provision.
Drawing from Christian teachings, he said fathers are the heads of their families just as Christ is the head of the Church, emphasizing that neglect of fatherly responsibilities could have far reaching consequences on children and society.
According to him, children who are denied proper parental care and guidance are more likely to grow up without the values and support needed to become responsible adults.
Also speaking, the leader of the revered Nze na Ozo in Uruowulu Village, Obosi, Nze Chijioke Ejindu, described a father as a man who provides for and guides both his biological and non biological children. He likened the role of fathers to stakes that support yam tendrils, noting that children require the guidance and support of fathers to achieve success in life.
Ejindu further stated that fathers complement the nurturing role of mothers, thereby promoting peace, unity and progress within the family.
In her remarks, Mrs. Njideka Okoyeagu an indigene of Obosi congratulated fathers on the occasion and appealed to women to support their husbands by avoiding excessive financial and material demands. She observed that some men resort to questionable means of livelihood in an attempt to meet unrealistic expectations.
Okoyeagu encouraged wives to be home-builders and partners in family development, stressing that mutual understanding and support are essential for a peaceful and stable home.
Fatherhood remains a noble responsibility, requiring commitment, sacrifice and exemplary leadership. As heads of families, fathers are expected to provide moral direction, instill values and contribute positively to the upbringing of future generations.
