A medical outreach was organized at DKM International Hospital by the Hospital Administrator, Dr. Kenneth Muoghalu, as part of efforts to improve access to quality and affordable healthcare services for residents of the area.
The outreach, which was held at the hospital premises in Fegge, Onitsha South Local Government Area, attracted members of the community who came out to benefit from the exercise. Participants received medical attention and were also sensitized on the importance of enrolling into the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) scheme for continuous healthcare coverage and subsequent medical follow-up.
Speaking during the outreach, the ASHIA representative, Mrs. Anoliefo Nneoma, enlightened participants on the benefits of the health insurance scheme, emphasizing that enrollment into ASHIA would enable them to access affordable and quality healthcare services without the burden of out-of-pocket payment for medical treatment.
Some of the beneficiaries who enrolled during the outreach expressed gratitude to the organizers for bringing the health insurance registration exercise closer to the people. Speaking during the event, Mr. Ben Agbarizu commended the initiative, noting that the exercise would greatly assist residents who may not have easy access to healthcare services. Mrs. Maria Okafor also appreciated the organizers for creating awareness about ASHIA and making enrollment accessible to members of the community.
The outreach further provided an avenue for community members to ask questions and gain better understanding of the operations and benefits of the health insurance scheme.
Participants were encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to remain enrolled and ensure regular medical follow-up when necessary.
At the end of the exercise, a total of 50 persons were successfully enrolled into the ASHIA scheme. The outreach was regarded as a successful step towards expanding healthcare coverage and promoting healthier communities in Onitsha South Local Government Area.
