The Anambra State Ministry of Information organized a one-day in-house capacity-building program for 20 selected information officers aimed at modernizing the state’s communication framework and strengthening professional competence.
Held in the ministry’s situation room, the program was conducted under the supervision of Permanent Secretary, Pharm. Oby Uchebu. It focused on equipping participants with practical skills in real-time news reporting, field information gathering, script writing and editing, voice-over production, presentation techniques, graphic content coordination, and digital communication workflows.
Resource persons facilitated sessions on content creation standards, news writing, script writing, and digital presentation to enhance the quality, professionalism, and reach of government communication.
Mrs. Obiamaka Chilokwu, one of the facilitators, led discussions on effective public information delivery, emphasizing the importance of confident presentation, professional posture, strong audience engagement, and the ability to communicate government policies clearly and effectively to the public.
She also provided strategic guidance on script writing for digital platforms, advising participants to develop compelling headlines, maintain message clarity, tailor communication to target audiences, and incorporate effective calls to action. Additionally, she stressed the importance of professional production standards, including appropriate video backgrounds, distraction-free recording environments, and thorough content reviews before publication.
Mrs. Regina Igwebuike conducted a session on the fundamentals of news editing, highlighting adherence to house style, proper use of datelines, and the importance of timeliness, relevance, and accuracy in news dissemination. Mr. Okey Onwuka addressed the use of quality imagery, emphasizing that clear, properly composed visuals are essential for professional communication output.
The program featured interactive sessions, group exercises, and participant presentations, with facilitators providing constructive feedback to strengthen officers’ capacity to produce professional, accurate, and engaging public communication materials.
At the conclusion of the training, medals were awarded to the top-performing groups, with Comrade Angela Nwanodu’s team securing first place and Comrade Isima Stephanie Obianuju’s team emerging second.
Participants expressed profound appreciation to Permanent Secretary, Pharm. Oby Uchebu, for her visionary leadership in initiating the program and for her continued commitment to strengthening the professional capacity of information officers in Anambra State.
