Nigerians across the country on June 12 marked Democracy Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the power of the people’s voice and the shared commitment to building a stronger nation. Government officials, civil society organizations, and citizens used the occasion to reaffirm their dedication to peace, unity, justice, and service to humanity.
Speaking on a social media platform, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, noted that democracy thrives when citizens actively participate, leaders remain visionary and accountable, and communities work together for the common good.
In her words, “Democracy reminds us that progress is possible when citizens actively participate, leaders remain visionary and accountable, and communities work together.”
Across the country, commentators and event organizers highlighted the crucial role of young people in shaping Nigeria’s future, encouraging them to remain hopeful and actively engaged in civic life.
They emphasized that youth participation is essential in building a nation where families can enjoy good health, dignity, and prosperity.
As celebrations continued across various states, Dr. Soludo and other stakeholders calls for renewed civic responsibility and appeals for sustained action from both leaders and citizens. “Today we renew our commitment to the values of peace, unity and justice, and pledge to build the Nigeria of our dreams.”
