‎The Archdiocesan Chaplain of the CWO, Onitsha Region, Rev. Fr. Collins Okoye, characterised motherhood as a sacred and divine vocation rooted in sacrifice, faith, and love. He noted that both the Church and society are substantially reliant upon the moral exemplars provided by virtuous mothers.
‎
‎Fr. Okoye made this observation during the commemoration of the 2026 Mother’s Day celebration in the Onitsha Archdiocese, as Catholic mothers joined their counterparts worldwide in observing the occasion.
‎
‎According to him, “Motherhood is a vocation that shapes the moral fabric of society. The strength of our families and of future generations depends significantly upon the values mothers instil in their children”.
‎
‎He urged unity among mothers, encouraging mutual support, perseverance, and steadfast adherence to Christian virtues in the upbringing of children.
‎
‎Also speaking, the Director of the C.W.O Archdiocese, Onitsha, Dr. Ngozi Nwanosike, enjoined mothers to remain resolute in faith and to renew their commitment to prayer as the bedrock of a tranquil home. Dr. Nwanosike further stated, “Mothers exemplify divine love daily through their patience, kindness, resilience, and unwavering support for their families.”
‎
‎She described mothers as pillars of faith and essential instruments of God’s love within their homes and ecclesiastical communities, asserting that the stability of both Church and society depends largely upon the moral fortitude of mothers.
‎
‎According to her, mothers fulfil a critical role in shaping lives, sustaining families through prayer, and inspiring future generations through their strength of character. She concluded by encouraging mothers not to be disheartened by the challenges inherent in parenthood, reminding them that their sacrifices, though often unnoticed by society, are observed and shall be duly rewarded by God.
‎
‎Earlier, the President, C.W.O, Onitsha Region, Lady Ikpeama Uju, expressed profound concern over the growing tendency of mothers to delegate the upbringing of their children to nannies while devoting attention to matters of lesser importance.
‎
‎Lady Ikeama lamented on what she described as a discernible decline in discipline and modesty among children, attributing it, in part, to insufficient parental attention. Emphasizing the imperative for mothers to be both emotionally and physically present in the lives and activities of their children, she called upon young mothers to emulate the virtues, discipline, and commitment exemplified by preceding generations.
