The Comprehensive Science and Technical College (CSTC), Nawfia, has called on the Anambra Government to recruit more teachers to address shortages in its Arts, Science and Technical departments.
The Principal of the college, Ven. Nnamdi Emendu, made the appeal during a fact finding visit to the institution, noting that the shortage was affecting effective teaching and learning.
Emendu identified the Technical Department as the worst affected, explaining that the dearth of teachers to handle theoretical lessons had made it necessary for students to undertake practical training and internships in industries and workshops outside the college.
He said recruiting more teachers into the department would improve the teaching of technical subjects and strengthen students’ practical knowledge.
In the Science Department, the principal called for the deployment of qualified teachers to handle key subjects, including Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
He also disclosed that the Arts Department had no French teacher at the junior secondary level, while Geography, History and Commerce were among the subjects without teachers.
Emendu urged the state government to recruit and deploy qualified personnel to the affected departments to fill the existing vacancies.
He further appealed for the recruitment of more male teachers, citing the need to address staffing gaps and ensure continuity in teaching when female teachers proceed on maternity and other forms of leave.
On the student census directed by the Ministry of Education, the principal said the college had complied with the directive using the template provided by the ministry.
