The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, on Aug. 26, embarked on an observation patrol across parts of the State and paid unscheduled visits to selected police stations in Awka. The exercise was part of the command’s efforts to strengthen operational supervision, assess the preparedness of personnel and enhance effective service delivery ahead of the Anambra State Local Government Elections scheduled for Aug. 29.
According to a statement issued to journalists in Awka by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the commissioner inspected the operational environment of the stations, interacted with officers on duty and assessed their readiness, alertness and ability to respond to security concerns within their areas of responsibility. CP Nnanna also reviewed the general conduct of personnel and emphasised the need for professionalism, discipline, courtesy and respect for the rights of citizens before, during and after the elections.

He stressed that effective policing depends largely on public trust, accountability and professionalism, urging officers to remain vigilant, politically neutral and responsive while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities. The commissioner charged personnel to ensure that their conduct contributes to the safety, credibility and peaceful conduct of the local government elections.
He further directed officers and men to maintain high standards of discipline and professionalism in their interactions with members of the public, political actors and other stakeholders. According to him, the command would continue to recognise and encourage conduct that promotes quality policing, community partnership and public confidence and warned that indiscipline, misconduct, extortion, corruption, political bias and other forms of unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated.
CP Nnanna assured residents that the Police command remained fully prepared to provide adequate security during the local government elections. He said operational supervision, police visibility and strategic deployment would be strengthened across the State to safeguard lives and property, protect critical infrastructure and create a peaceful and secure environment for residents to exercise their civic responsibilities.
The commissioner also appealed to residents, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies, obey the law and avoid actions capable of disrupting the peace before, during and after the elections.
