The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and patient friendly environment as part of its drive to deliver quality healthcare services.
The Chief Medical Director(CMD), Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, made the commitment in a statement issued on August 4 and signed by the hospital’s Public Relations Officer.
Dr. Umeakuewulu emphasized that environmental cleanliness is an essential component of quality healthcare, noting that a hygienic hospital environment not only enhances patient comfort but also reduces the risk of infections and promotes faster recovery.
She disclosed that the management has intensified routine environmental sanitation, regular cleaning of wards, clinics, offices and the hospital premises, while sustaining high standards of hygiene across all departments.
According to her, the continuous maintenance of hospital facilities forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at transforming COOUTH into a modern, world class teaching hospital that provides efficient, safe and patient centred healthcare services.
She stressed that excellence in healthcare extends beyond clinical treatment to creating an environment that promotes healing, dignity, safety and confidence for patients, visitors and healthcare workers.
The CMD urged members of staff, patients, visitors and the general public to support the hospital’s cleanliness campaign by disposing of waste responsibly, maintaining good hygiene practices and protecting hospital facilities from misuse or damage.
She noted that building a world class teaching hospital is a shared responsibility, calling on all stakeholders to contribute to preserving an environment that supports quality healthcare delivery.
Dr. Umeakuewulu reaffirmed the management’s resolve to sustain environmental cleanliness as a key pillar of improved patient care, safety and overall service excellence at COOUTH.
