The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has charged newly sworn-in local government chairmen to redouble their efforts and continue showing how LGs should be run in Nigeria.

Dr. Mefor stated this in Ogidi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, during the reception organised for the Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, shortly after he was sworn-in for a second term in Awka alongside other chairmen.
The commissioner, who spoke in an interview with journalists, said the celebrations at Idemili North Headquarters mirror what is happening simultaneously across the 21 local government areas of the state following the conclusion of the chairmanship elections.

He described the local government as the third tier of government now enjoying autonomy as guaranteed by the 1999 Constitution as amended, noting that many chairmen, including the Idemili North Mayor, are already executing major projects such as road construction.
“We expect them to do more to cement this new status and to prove how the third tier of government should be run in Nigeria,” Mefor said.

The commissioner further cautioned returning chairmen against complacency in their second and final term. “They should not see it as a time to relax. They cannot afford to relax. To whom much is given, much is expected,” he said.
