The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo officially inaugurated the 21 local government mayors and their deputies on October 3, at the Exco Chambers of the Anambra State Lighthouse in Awka, urging them to prioritise grassroots development, service to the people, and accountability. “It is a call to serve, and APGA has given you all a platform to serve Ndi Anambra.”

The 21 inaugurated mayors are: Aguata: Kingsley Ezeagu; Anambra East: Ifeanyi Chinweze; Anambra West: Tony Obierika; Anaocha: Paulinus Okafor; Awka North: Thankgod Anago; Awka South: Chinedu Okafor; Ayamelum: Mgbechi Igwebuike; Dunukofia: Chijioke Ozumba; Ekwusigo: Ifeanyi Onuchukwu; Idemili North: Stanley Nkwoka; and Idemili South: Oluchukwu Ilogbenam.

Others are Ihiala: Anayo Orjiakor; Njikoka: Ikechukwu Okakpu; Nnewi North: Anazodo Echezona; Nnewi South: Ezeogidi Van; Onitsha North: Ibekwe Albert; Onitsha South: Peter Moufunanya; Ogbaru: Nnamdi Ifedika; Orumba North: Barr. Chinonso Nwafor; Orumba South: Azubuike Shadrach; and Oyi: Igbem John.


The governor also urged the mayors to review the oaths of allegiance and office they had taken and study the local government laws, Nigerian Constitution, and state security law, so these principles could guide them throughout their terms. “These laws are very critical. For those of you who are new, ensure you pay attention to the handover note given to you. Make sure it is duly documented and signed.

“Your ultimate and primary goal is the welfare of Ndi Anambra, and if you succeed, Anambra will be great,” he said.

The Idemili North Mayor Mr. Stanley Nkwoka, expressed joy at the inauguration. He thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve the people of Idemili North. He promised to address cultism, keep the environment clean, and promote security.

The oath of allegiance was administered by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN.
