Residents of Umuchu, Amesi, Achina and Akpo communities in Aguata Local Government Area have commended Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his proactive approach to tackling flooding through environmental sanitation and drainage desilting.
The residents expressed their appreciation on July 4 while participating in the statewide environmental sanitation exercise, during which they cleared gutters and water channels to improve drainage and reduce the risk of flooding.
Speaking with some journalists at Umuchu, the Youth Leader of Ozara Akukwa, Engr. Nzubechukwu Okpareke, described Gov. Soludo as a leader who anticipates challenges and responds promptly to them.
According to him, flooding has become a major challenge in many parts of the world, including Nigeria, making the Governor’s preventive measures timely and necessary.
”We are carrying out this exercise in compliance with the directive of the Anambra State Government to clean our environment. We even carried out a similar exercise last Saturday on our own, but we are here again today in support of the Governor’s directive because we believe in what he is doing,” he said.
Engr. Okpareke added that Gov. Soludo’s commitment to good governance deserved the support and cooperation of residents, stressing that citizens should comply with government directives aimed at improving the environment.
At Amesi, the Vice Chairman of the Works Committee, Ubaha Village, Nze Okechukwu Ezendiokwere, also praised the Governor’s environmental initiatives, describing him as a leader whose achievements were evident across the state.
He noted that the community had consistently maintained its drainage systems but intensified the exercise in response to the governor’s sanitation campaign.
”We owe the governor our support by obeying his directives. We have always worked hard to keep our drainage channels clear, but today’s exercise was carried out with greater commitment in honour of his environmental initiative,” Ezendiokwere said.
