Every year on March 24, the world marks World Tuberculosis Day, a day set aside to raise awareness and accelerate efforts to end one of the deadliest infectious diseases globally—Tuberculosis, commonly known as TB.
In Anambra State, this day is not just symbolic; it is a call to action. Tuberculosis remains a serious public health concern, but the good news is that TB is preventable, treatable, and curable when detected early. Unfortunately, stigma, late diagnosis, and poor access to care continue to fuel its spread.
The administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has demonstrated strong commitment to improving healthcare delivery across the state. Through strengthened primary healthcare systems, increased community sensitization, and collaboration with development partners, Anambra is taking bold steps to combat TB. Health facilities across the state now offer free TB testing and treatment, ensuring that no resident is left behind. Mobile outreach programs and grassroots campaigns are also helping to take these vital services closer to the people, especially in rural communities.
This year’s theme, “Yes! We Can End TB”, resonates strongly with Anambra’s vision of a healthy and productive population. It aligns with the government’s broader agenda of building a livable and prosperous homeland. But ending TB is not the job of government alone. Individuals must take responsibility—seek medical attention if you have a persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, encourage others to get tested, and support those undergoing treatment. Together, through collective action, awareness, and sustained commitment,
Anambra State can lead the way in ending Tuberculosis. Because indeed—Yes, we can end TB.
