CHAIRMAN ANAMBRA STATE TRADITIONAL RULERS COUNCIL INAUGURATES COMMITTEES, CHARGES THEM ON DILIGENCE, EXCELLENCE

The Chairman, Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council (ASTRC), HRM Eze Iweka III, has inaugurated Review of Law and Seminar Planning Committees members, charging them to bring their wealth of experience to bear toward effective discharge of their duties.

The inauguration of the two committees, which took place at the Anambra State Town Union Council Hall Awka during an Expanded Executive meeting, has HRM Igwe Chris Chidiume of Omor as Chairman Seminar Planning Committee and HRM Igwe C Agbala of Uke as Secretary of the Committee.

Other members of the Seminar Planning Committee include:
HRM Igwe Ben Emeka (Umueri), HRM Igwe B.O Okeji (Omasi),HRM Igwe JohnMark Anyaoha (Ogbunka), HRM Igwe Bob Orji (Ezinifite Aguata), HRM Igwe Emeka Okezie (Okija),bHRM Igwe Emeka Ilouno (Ifitedunu), HRM Igwe Joel Egwuonwu (Umuawulu), HRM Igwe Gerald Mbamalu (Ojoto), HRM Igwe Augustine Emelobe (Oba) and HRM Igwe J.O Okpalaezecha (Akpo).

The seminar planning committee has its mandate as follows:
to organize a two-day workshop for all traditional rulers of Anambra State; identify relevant topics/theme and resource persons within and outside the state that can adequately handle the topics and source for funding of the events within and outside the government circle.

They are to plan and execute a seamless programme for the seminar as well as invite special guests appropriate to grace the occasion.

On the other hand, HRM Igwe Michael Idigo of Aguleri was appointed as the Chairman of the committee to review the chieftaincy laws governing traditional rulers in the state while HRM Igwe will serve as secretary.

Their mandates are as follows: To review the Traditional Rulers Establishment laws 2007, 2020, 2024 as amended as a well as the State Security Laws 2025 (Udo Ga-Achi/Vigilante Law); and to establish relevant sections that advance or whittle down the powers of traditional rulers in the discharge of their duties in communities.

Others are to make appropriate recommendations that could change the status quo and submit report to the council chairman within 5 weeks from the date of inauguration, as well as to look into the new Local Government Law and deliberate on how it may affect the council.

Other committee members on Review of Law are: HRM Justice Samuel Okoye (Rtd) Deputy Chairman (Azigbo), HRM Barr. Simeon Chidubem (Umumbo), HRM Prof. Anikweze (Awkuzu),HRM Igwe Joseph Alokwu (Nzam),HRM Barr. A.O Ezeoke (Amichi),HRM Igwe S. C. Uchime (Ufuma), HRM Barr. Emeka Onuorah (Oraukwu), HRM Dr. Dan Obele (Nawfia), and HRM Engr. Nike Obi (Nnobi).

Speaking during the inauguration, the ASTRC Chairman, HRM Eze Iweka III, explained that members of the two committees were selected based on merit, accompanied with their knowledge in law as well as those with special experience and interest in law guiding the traditional rulers council in the state.

Also, he emphasized the importance of teamwork and commitment in achieving the objectives of which the committee was established while further soliciting for sponsorship from both government and private establishments within and outside the state.

Responding on behalf of the inaugurated members, the Chairman Seminar Planning Committee, HRM Igwe Chris Chidiume and his counterpart Chairman, Review of Law Committee, HRM Igwe Michael Idigo both respectively expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in them and assured undiluted doggedness toward the success of the assignment and also promised not to exceed the stipulated time frame.

The inauguration marks a step in the council’s efforts to promote and restore the dignity of Ndi Igwe in Anambra State. Issuance of appointment letters to the inaugurated committees formed the highpoint of the occasion.
