Catholic faithful have been encouraged to imbibe the virtues of love and selfless service to humanity as central elements of their Christian faith.
The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joseph Okafor, gave the charge during his homily at St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish 3-3, Onitsha, while celebrating the Holy Eucharist.
Fr. Okafor explained that the Holy Eucharist remains the source and summit of Christian life, emphasizing its role in restoring spiritual strength and deepening unity within the Church.
He noted that through the reception of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, Christians are called to emulate the life of Christ, particularly His sacrifice, humility, and love for humanity.
The cleric highlighted thanksgiving as the core essence of the Holy Eucharist, describing it as a celebration that embodies sacrifice, service, and total devotion to God and mankind.
According to him, the Eucharist is rooted in love, urging Christians to love one another just as Jesus Christ loves the Church.
Fr. Okafor further called on the faithful to use the season as a time for sober reflection on Christ’s selfless love and to reciprocate it by living lives of holiness, compassion, and service to others.
