The Bishop of the Diocese on the Niger, Rt. Rev. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo, has urged newly confirmed communicants and members of Anglican societies to shun hypocrisy and remain steadfast in their faith in Christ.

Nwokolo gave the charge on Aug. 30, while delivering a homily at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church during his Episcopal and Pastoral Visit to the church as part of activities marking the Ugwuagba Archdeaconry Confirmation and Admission Service.

Addressing the congregation, including members admitted into the Girls’ Guild, Anglican Boys Fellowship, Men’s Christian Fellowship and Mothers’ Union, the bishop cautioned Christians against condemning others for sins they also commit.

He urged the faithful to learn from the example of the scribes and Pharisees, stressing the need for Christians to examine their own lives and remain committed to the teachings of Christ.

Nwokolo also urged the congregation to obey God’s commandments and develop the habit of reading the Bible daily.

He said Christian faith should be reflected in the conduct of believers and not merely in their words.

The bishop stressed the importance of Anglicans knowing the contents of Ekpere na Abụ and applying its teachings in their daily lives.

He said he still remembered the contents of the book from the time of his confirmation in 1980, noting that knowledge of its teachings remained relevant to Christian faith and practice.

Nwokolo thereafter prayed for the congregation, particularly the newly confirmed communicants and admitted members, asking God to strengthen them in their Christian journey.

The Archdeacon in charge of Ugwuagba Archdeaconry, Ven. Kperechukwu Nwankwo, welcomed the bishop, his wife, Mrs. Elsie Nwokolo, the chaplain, members of his entourage and other church workers.

Nwankwo thanked the bishop for the pastoral visit and for the earlier dedication held at St. Nicholas Anglican Church, Oduke.

The service also featured thanksgiving by the newly admitted members and communicants, their parents and other members of the congregation.
