‎The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy, identified as Udochukwu Nwankwo, in connection with an alleged armed robbery incident in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state. Nwankwo was apprehended in the early hours of Sept. 2, by operatives of the Command attached to B Division, Amansea, while conducting a routine security patrol in the area.
‎
‎The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in an official statement issued to journalists in Awka. According to Ikenga, the police operatives recovered a shiny metallic lighter designed to resemble a pistol from the suspect. The object was allegedly used by Nwankwo to threaten his victim and dispossess her of her valuables.
‎
‎Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly operated with two other accomplices, who are currently at large. The trio reportedly attacked a guest at a hotel in the area and allegedly made away with her mobile phone and other personal belongings.
‎
‎The police spokesman further stated that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to using the recovered pistol-like object to intimidate victims during robbery operations.
‎
‎The command said it had intensified investigations and launched efforts to apprehend the fleeing accomplices, recover the stolen mobile phone and other valuables, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
