The Diocese on the Niger, Anglican Communion, on June 26 gathered at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Awka-Etiti, to bid a final farewell to the late Rev. Ifeanyi Okeke, as family members, clergy, friends and well-wishers paid glowing tributes to his life of faith, service and dedication to God’s kingdom.
Officiating at the funeral service, the Bishop of the Diocese on the Niger, the Rt. Rev. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo, charged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and to live with the consciousness of eternity.
The Bishop urged the faithful not to fear death, emphasizing that “to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” He further called on those who have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour to do so without delay, stressing that no one knows the appointed hour of departure from this world.
He also encouraged mourners not to allow grief to overshadow their faith in God, assuring them that Christ remains the ultimate source of comfort and hope in times of sorrow.
Paying tribute to the deceased cleric, Bishop Nwokolo described the late Rev. Engr. Ifeanyi Okeke as a devoted servant of God whose brief but impactful ministry left an enduring legacy within the Diocese.
He commended the late priest’s diligence, excellence and unwavering commitment to the work of God, describing him as a priceless gift to the Diocese. The Bishop noted that his contributions, particularly in the education sector, would continue to inspire generations.
Until his passing, the late Rev. Ifeanyi Okeke served as Chaplain of Anglican Girls Grammar School, Alor, where he was widely respected for his dedication to spiritual mentorship, Christian service and the moral development of students.
