The Anambra State Ministry of Education has continued its back-to-school monitoring exercise, visiting Central Primary School and Igwedumma Primary School, Amawbia, to assess activities following resumption.
The monitoring team, led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Mrs Obiageli Chiegboka, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Dr Ekene Ogugua, visited both schools on September 18.
Chiegboka engaged headteachers and teachers on sustaining effective classroom activities, improving resource utilisation, and encouraging regular attendance and punctuality among pupils as the academic session progresses.

She specifically urged schools to make effective use of Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) textbooks provided for pupils, integrating the materials into classroom activities to enhance understanding.
Chiegboka also encouraged schools to make morning assemblies more lively and purposeful, while urging teachers to continue nurturing pupils’ reading abilities and strengthening foundational literacy.

At Igwedumma Primary School, the headteacher, Mrs Caroline Ejike, highlighted challenges arising from the growing pupil population, particularly increasing costs of writing materials and other basic educational resources.
She appealed for direct payment of monthly subvention to mission public schools, rather than routing funds through mission authorities, saying this would enable schools to access funds promptly.
The monitoring exercise was part of the Ministry’s efforts to strengthen classroom activities, support effective resumption, and identify areas requiring attention across schools as the academic session progresses.
