Member of the Anambra State Local Government Service Commission supervising Awka South Local Government Area, Mr. Uche Okafor, has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to promoting the welfare of Local Government workers, assuring staff of fair treatment and the prompt resolution of their concerns.
Mr. Okafor gave the assurance during an interactive session with staff at the Awka South Local Government Headquarters in Awka on August 4, where he emphasized that the welfare and career progression of workers remain a top priority of the commission.
He condemned the practice of public officers occupying positions for prolonged periods without properly handing over to their successors, describing it as a major factor responsible for stagnation within the Local Government service. According to him, the commission has already initiated measures to address the situation and ensure a more transparent and efficient administrative system.
The commission member urged staff to remain committed to their responsibilities by carrying out their duties diligently and professionally, stressing that their dedication is essential to the effective delivery of services at the grassroots.
Mr. Okafor further assured workers that outstanding promotions would soon be implemented, including those due for advancement in 2026, adding that the commission is working to ensure deserving officers receive their entitlements without unnecessary delays.
He also commended the Mayor of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, as well as the Heads of Departments, for their collective efforts in advancing staff welfare and enhancing the productivity of the workforce.
In her remarks, the Head of Personnel Management, Mrs. Nkem Osunkwo, applauded Mr. Okafor for his unwavering concern for the well-being of Local Government employees and prayed for God’s continued guidance and success in his service.
Also speaking, the Auditor of the Local Government, Mrs. Eucheria Uyanwune, expressed appreciation for the assurances given by the commission member, noting that the workers were encouraged by his commitment to addressing their welfare concerns.
She pledged the continued support and cooperation of the workforce, expressing confidence that unity and mutual understanding would facilitate the successful implementation of the Commission’s objectives.
