The Divine Mercy Devotees in the Awka Catholic Diocese celebrated their 35 years of existence with lots of testimonies and achievements to show for it.
The event took place at the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka with an Episcopal Mass celebration anchored by the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor with dignitaries including the Awka Diocesan Chaplain of the Divine Mercy association Rev.Fr. Alphonsus Obiekezie, Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Pius Okoye in attendance.
At a reception after the celebration, the Head, Human Rights Law Department, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka campus, Prof. Uju Nwogu, urged all Christians to join the association or be devoted to the Divine Mercy prayers to tap from the ocean of Mercy of Jesus Christ and to enhance their spiritual growth.
Prof. Nwogu an award winner of the pious association and the former Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Anambra State, used the forum to advise all mothers ahead of the April 19 Catholic Mothering Sunday, to Sit up to their responsibilities as mothers and to be role models in their families and in the larger society.
Another Divine Mercy Devotee, and award winner of the association, Mrs Esther Onyekesi urged Christians to practice devotion to the mercy of God to experience positive changes in their lives and families the way she is experiencing.
Mrs. Onyekesi the Anambra State All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Woman Leader, also used the forum to urge mothers ahead of their Mothering Sunday, to imbibe virtues of motherhood such as respecting their husbands and being role models in their families and in the larger society.
In their separate remarks, the leader of of the Awka Diocesan Mercy Devotees, Mr.Anthony Oji testified that the group’s numerical strength has increased and called for support for its purchase of a shuttle bus for evangelization, while the Chairman Planning Committee of its 35 years celebration, Mr. Christian Isika urged Christians to join the group to tap from the ocean of Mercy of God.
