The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Mr. Victor Ezekwo, has called on civil servants to uphold and restore core values and ethics within the service.
Mr. Ezekwo made this appeal during an interactive session with heads of departments and staff of the ministry at its premises in Awka.

He urged workers to align with the vision of the state government and the Office of the Head of Service, emphasizing the need for renewed commitment, discipline, and productivity in public service.
According to him, civil servants must “gear up” to meet expectations and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
The Permanent Secretary commended staff for complying with the state government’s directive to end the Monday sit-at-home practice, describing the development as a positive step forward. He encouraged them to sustain the momentum and remain dedicated to their duties.

Expressing concern over declining standards, Mr. Ezekwo decried the erosion of ethics, values, and professionalism among some civil servants. He stressed the importance of punctuality, accountability, and diligence, urging workers to report to duty daily and justify their earnings.

He further warned against acts of misconduct, noting that violations of civil service rules attract penalties. Such offences, he said, include loitering during official hours, habitual lateness, rumour-mongering, and unauthorized absence from duty.
He added that sanctions could range from suspension and salary stoppage to outright dismissal.
Mr. Ezekwo concluded by encouraging all staff to actively participate in repositioning the civil service to its proper and respected status.
