The Catholic Women Organisation (CWO), Awada Zone 1, held a vibrant zonal convention themed “Shine My Star” at SS John and Paul Iba Pope Parish, Awada, in Idemili North Local Government Area. The event, hosted under the leadership of the Zonal Organiser, Iyom Ifeoma Onwugharam, took place from June 14 to 17.
The convention commenced with a Holy Mass celebrated by the Parish Priest and CWO Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Aloysius Agba. The gathering also attracted priests from various parishes within the zone, political office holders, business leaders, and other distinguished guests.
Speaking after the Mass, Fr. Agba described the convention as remarkable and unprecedented, commending Onwugharam for her exemplary leadership and the impressive participation of members from across the zone.
He prayed for God’s continued blessings and rewards upon the women for their dedication, sacrifices, and contributions to the Church.
The Director of CWO, Onitsha Archdiocese, Lady Ngozi Nwanosike, lauded the zonal leadership for effectively implementing resolutions of the Archdiocese.
She disclosed that proceeds from the convention would be channelled towards the ongoing Shanahan University project initiated by the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke.
In her address, Onwugharam revealed that part of the proceeds would also be used to support empowerment programmes for indigent members. She noted that Awada Zone 1 comprises seven parishes and attributed the success of her administration to sustained prayers, annual seminars, and regular engagement with members.
She expressed gratitude to members, chaplains, and benefactors for their unwavering support, describing Fr. Agba as a devoted and committed priest. She also prayed for God’s abundant blessings upon all donors and supporters of the organisation.
Highlights of the convention included cultural performances, cake cutting, the installation of patrons and patronesses, the unveiling of Our Lady, the announcement of competition results, and the presentation of trophies to outstanding participants.
