The Catholic community at St. Joseph Catholic Parish, Odoakpu, Onitsha, was privileged to host Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, Archbishop of the Onitsha Archdiocese, on a pastoral visit that epitomized spiritual rejuvenation and tangible community advancement. The occasion was marked by the confirmation of 403 candidates and the solemn blessing and commissioning of the newly constructed Shanahan Nursery and Primary School building, a testament to the parish’s unwavering commitment to education and moral formation.
In his homily, Archbishop Okeke emphasized the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, urging the faithful to remain steadfast in their faith. He underscored the importance of vigilance against sin, stating, “Through baptism, we receive the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us against sin… When the Spirit dwells within us, it produces goodness, compassion, honesty, and selflessness.”
The visit showcased the Archdiocese’s notable strides in human and spiritual development. Parish leaders extolled the Archbishop’s visionary leadership, citing notable achievements such as the establishment of Shanahan University and other community-centric initiatives.
The Parish Priest, Reverend Father Simeon Nwabuife, received commendation for his dynamic and people-oriented leadership, which has resulted in notable achievements within the parish.
Fr. Nwabuife also expressed profound gratitude for the Archbishop’s presence, acknowledging the fulfillment of a long-held parish aspiration. He thanked the parishioners for their unwavering unity and support.
