The Executive Director of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), Dr. Nkem Okeke, has commended the First Lady of Anambra State, Her Excellency, Dr. Nonye Soludo, for her continued commitment to the welfare of women, children and vulnerable families across the state.
Dr. Okeke gave the commendation as the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, arrived in Anambra on Sept. 10 for the South-East launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme.
He described the initiative as a significant step towards strengthening social support for vulnerable households and improving access to nutritious food, particularly for families experiencing food insecurity.
The ANSACA boss noted that the programme aligns with the broader focus of the Anambra State Government under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, on improving the welfare and quality of life of residents.
He particularly praised Dr. Nonye Soludo for using her platform to promote healthy living and support initiatives that respond to the needs of vulnerable members of society.
Dr. Okeke explained that adequate nutrition is an important component of overall health and well-being, noting that for people living with HIV, access to nutritious food can support general health and complement ongoing HIV care, while food insecurity can create additional challenges for families managing long term health needs.
He stressed that the HIV response must go beyond treatment to address the social realities that can affect people’s health and quality of life.
“People need more than medicine. They need dignity, compassion, social support and an environment where they can access essential services without fear of stigma or discrimination,” he said.
Dr. Okeke applauded the collaboration between the Federal and Anambra State Governments, expressing optimism that the Food Bank Programme would strengthen community support for vulnerable households and contribute to healthier communities across Anambra and the wider South-East.
He urged individuals, families, community leaders and organisations to support initiatives that promote food security, healthy living and inclusion.
“When communities stand together, vulnerable families are stronger, healthier and better able to thrive,” Dr. Okeke said.
