The Mayor of Nnewi North Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Echezona Anazodo, on July 4, commissioned a newly constructed road in Akaboukwu Village, Uruagu, Nnewi, describing the project as a shining example of community-driven development.
The road was fully funded and constructed by philanthropist Chief Chukwudum Ozochukwu, popularly known as Akachukwu Di Ya Na Mexico, as part of his commitment to improving infrastructure in his community.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Anazodo commended Chief Ozochukwu for his selfless contribution, noting that the gesture aligns with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to build a livable, prosperous and people-centred Anambra through active community participation.
The mayor stressed that sustainable development requires collaboration between government and the people, adding that meaningful progress is achieved when individuals complement government efforts through impactful projects.
He assured residents that the LGA would continue to partner with public-spirited individuals, community groups and organisations committed to the development of Nnewi North.
In his remarks, Chief Ozochukwu said the road project was his way of giving back to the community that nurtured him, pledging to undertake more projects that would improve the lives of residents and contribute to the growth of the area.
Residents expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing the road as a major boost to transportation, commerce and economic activities, noting that the project would also improve access to homes and businesses while increasing property values within the community.
Among the dignitaries present were Hon. Prince Jude Osumuo, President-General of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi, Hon. Austin Manuel Jideofor and other community leaders.
