The Executive Mayor of Anambra West Local Government Area, Hon. Edith Nkeiru Ndive, has reiterated her administration’s commitment to agricultural advancement and food security through the empowerment of over 150 farmers with farming equipment and agro-chemicals across the council area.
The empowerment exercise, held on May 26th, 2026, at the Local Government Secretariat in Nzam, drew farmers, community leaders, youth groups, and agricultural cooperatives from various communities within Anambra West. The programme was organized to enhance agricultural productivity and improve the economic well-being of rural farmers.

Speaking during the distribution, Mayor Ndive described agriculture as the foundation of the local economy and emphasized the need to consistently support farmers with modern tools and essential inputs to increase food production.
She explained that the initiative aligns with the administration’s broader agenda to promote rural development, encourage youth participation in agriculture, and ensure food sufficiency within the local government area. Beneficiaries received various farming implements, spraying equipment, and agro-chemicals to support their activities during the current planting season.

The Mayor acknowledged the Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for his consistent support to farmers, continued investment in policies and programmes aimed at transforming agriculture and ensuring food security across the state. Urged the beneficiaries to utilize the distributed items responsibly and remain committed to productive agricultural practices that would improve food supply and strengthen the local economy.

In his remarks, the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture, Hon. Peter Okonkwo, commended the Mayor for prioritizing the welfare of farmers and investing substantially in agricultural empowerment programmes across Anambra West.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr. Okoye Nnamdi, Mrs. Uchechi Izuoba, Mrs. Cordelia Nduba, Mr. Udoku Nwachukwu, and Mr. Okwudili Oforzor, expressed appreciation to the local government leadership for the timely intervention. They noted that the support would reduce the financial burden of acquiring essential farming inputs and significantly improve their output during the season.
