The Anambra State office of the Federal Government/International Fund for Agricultural Development Value Chain Development Programme (FGN/IFAD-VCDP) has commenced preparations for the 2026 farming season with an inception meeting focused on the planned distribution of agricultural inputs to rice and cassava farmers across the state’s nine participating Local Government Areas(LGA).
The meeting, held on June 23 at the VCDP office in Awka, brought together input dealers, extension agents, programme staff and other key stakeholders to review implementation strategies and map out activities for the upcoming farming season.

Speaking during the meeting, the State Programme Coordinator, Dr. Deborah Onyefulu, said the gathering was convened to assess lessons from previous input distribution exercises and develop strategies that would ensure a more efficient and seamless process in 2026.
She reaffirmed the programme’s commitment to enhancing the productivity, profitability and livelihoods of smallholder farmers engaged in the rice and cassava value chains through the timely provision of quality agricultural inputs.

Dr. Onyefulu urged stakeholders to adhere strictly to programme guidelines, upholding transparency throughout the distribution process to support the broader goal of achieving food security in the state.
She emphasized the critical role of extension agents in promoting climate smart agricultural practices and modern production techniques that can improve farmers’ resilience, increase yields, and ensure sustainable agricultural development.
One of the stakeholders, Mr. Emma Obi, pledged the support and cooperation of participants towards ensuring a transparent and successful input distribution exercise, commending the Anambra State VCDP coordinating office for its continued commitment to supporting rural farmers, strengthening agricultural value chains.
The inception meeting formally signals the commencement of activities for the 2026 farming season. Beneficiary farmers are expected to receive improved rice seeds, cassava stems, fertilizers, agrochemicals and other essential production inputs aimed at boosting agricultural output and improving livelihoods.
