The Anambra State Government has announced that the 18–35-year age bracket will be enforced across youth development programmes, organisations and leadership structures from January 1, 2027.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Reformation, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, disclosed this in a press release dated Oct. 15.
According to the release, the policy is designed to ensure that youth focused opportunities reach their intended beneficiaries, promote fairness, creating more room for younger people to develop their leadership potential.

Youth organisations, associations and relevant institutions have been directed to review their membership, leadership structures and operational guidelines ahead of the implementation date.
The statement noted that, from January 1, 2027, the Ministry of Youth Development and relevant government agencies would no longer recognise youth organisations that fail to comply with the prescribed age limit.
The policy aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s youth reformation agenda, which seeks to promote discipline, productivity, responsibility and positive values among young people in Anambra State.
The government clarified that the directive would not exclude citizens above 35 from contributing to youth development. Instead, they are encouraged to support younger generations through mentorship, guidance and other forms of constructive engagement.
Stakeholders have been urged to use the transition period to make the necessary adjustments before the deadline.
The government said the initiative is intended to strengthen youth participation, promote accountability and create opportunities for emerging leaders to contribute meaningfully to the development of Anambra State.
