The Chief Medical Director of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Dr. Maureen Uche
Umeakuewulu, has on Oct 15, provided the hospital’s Haematology Department with an automated haematology analyser to improve Full Blood Count (FBC) testing and strengthen laboratory services.
The equipment enables laboratory scientists to analyse blood samples and obtain essential information about red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. These results assist doctors in diagnosing conditions such as anaemia and infections, as well as monitoring patients’ health.
The acquisition forms part of the hospital management’s efforts to improve laboratory services and enhance operational efficiency.
Following a comprehensive staff audit, the laboratory was reorganised into three specialised departments: Microbiology, Chemical Pathology and Haematology, to promote efficiency and improve service delivery.
The new analyser is expected to improve the speed and efficiency of routine blood tests, facilitate timely investigations and provide reliable results to support clinical decision-making.
The development reflects Dr. Umeakuewulu’s commitment to strengthening departmental capacity, improving working conditions for healthcare professionals and enhancing the quality of patient care at the hospital.
The initiative also aligns with the healthcare development agenda of the Anambra State Government under Governor Professor Chukwuma Soludo, which prioritises improved public services and healthcare delivery across the state.
